Welcome back to term 3. This is a very busy term with many fun and academic activities taking place. We will be holding the Senior and Junior Track and Field events, school disco, school opinion survey, school camps, excursions, car show and chocolate drive to name only a few.
I trust that all our families had a happy and restful holiday, and a special welcome to all new students and their families.

It is pleasing to see that attendance has improved in the first week and a half, but we are still a little short of our 95%. Congratulations to the 136 students who received a certificate acknowledging their perfect attendance in Term 2, and congratulations also to the 264 students who attended school between 95% and 99% of Term 2. I look forward to seeing more students achieving these awards this term.

Staff vs Student Football Match

On the last day of term 2 a Staff vs Student football match provided a lot of fun, goods sportsmanship and excellent team work. We are so lucky to have so many talented sports people, staff and students.
Congratulations to the staff on their resounding win, despite the obvious disadvantages of age, injury and not to mention over 20 students on their side.
As you can see in this picture the staff are an athletic looking team.
Car Show 2016
I am looking forward to my first Worongary Car Show on July 31, I hope to see many of you there at a major P&C fund raiser. I have been told that it is an exciting day with a lot to see and do. Let's hope that the weather stays nice and warm so that the cars will be seen at their very best.
Chocolate Drive
An email was sent to all families yesterday informing you of the upcoming chocolate drive. This is once again a very popular P&C fundraiser. If you would prefer not to receive a box of chocolates please let us know so that we make sure that your child/ren do not receive one of the boxes. The prizes for the winning families is certainly worthwhile and I thank you all in advance for your support of the school and the P&C.
Refreshed Advancing Education Action Plan available
We've listened to Queenslanders who said we're on the right track.
The refreshed Advancing education action plan emphasises partnerships with families, the community, industry and tertiary providers.
The consultation report and supporting plans â A strategy for STEM and #codingcounts â are available, with additional plans to be released throughout 2016.

The Buy Smart Competition is back â become smarter consumers
Students can exercise their creativity, learn important tips and skills, and have a chance at winning a share of over $11,000 in prizes for themselves and their school in the Buy Smart Competition.
The Buy Smart Competition is run by the Office of Fair Trading and helps students learn how to become informed consumers and avoid financial problems now and in adult life.
To take part, students will have to identify and research a consumer issue before developing a creative project to explain the issue to a target audience of their choice. The more creative, the better!
Students can enter on their own or as part of a group of up to six people.
The competition is open to students across Queensland and has three categories: Years 4 to 6, Years 7 to 9 and Years 10 to 12.

I urge you to take 10 minutes out of your busy days to give us some information about what we are doing well and what we could do better.
The School Opinion Survey is undertaken each year by the Department of Education and Training, State Schools Division to obtain opinion information from parents/caregivers, students and school staff.
The surveys will help our school to find out what we are doing well, and how we can improve. Links to the surveys are available on the School Opinion Survey website.
A sample list of families was generated and these families have the opportunity to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey with survey access details sent home this week. The survey is anonymous, and the results are not reported in ways that an individual's response can be identified by the school.
Survey queries can be directed to our school on telephone (07) 5502 4444 or office@worongaryss.eq.edu.au

NAIDOC WEEK

The National NAIDOC theme for 2016 is Songlines: The living narrative of our nation.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, The Dreamtime describes a time when the earth, people and animals were created by our ancestral spiritual beings. Dreaming tracks crisscross Australis and trace the journeys of our ancestral spirits as they created the land, animals and lores. These dreaming tracks are sometimes called 'Songlines' as they record the travels of these ancestral spirits who 'sung' the land into life.
Songlines have been passed down for thousands of years and are central to the existence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Students were introduced to songlines, the National theme of NAIDOC week and learnt about the importance of telling stories. Students participated in a variety of NAIDOC themed activities throughout the week.
NAIDOC ASSEMBLY
NAIDOC Celebration Yr 3-6 Assembly will be held Friday 22 July. All community members are welcome to attend from 2.10 to 3.00pm in the school hall.

- Online ordering is great for busy parents. Orders can be placed online at your convenience.
- Any orders placed online will be processed on the next uniform shop day (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) and a note will be sent to your child's classroom via the Tuckshop basket so they know when to collect it from the Tuckshop. Please let your child/ren know to keep an eye out for the note. Also please be aware that due to the Uniform Shop hours being in the afternoon on Wednesdays, orders processed on this day can be expected to reach your children on the following Thursday.
- Please ensure that you include your child's details as well as your own on the form ie. name and current class.
- Please be sure to update your child/children's class for each new school year.
