Every day counts

As we reach the end the year parents are reminded of the importance of sending children to school every day. Being at school every day counts, with one day absent each week quickly adding up to two months of missed lessons in a year.

Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year. It is really important to develop good work habits from an early age, children can try and convince you that ‘nothing is happening’ or that they don’t like the sports day, or to have their birthday off school, we need to help them realise that every day is important. Here is a short youtube video that might help you to respond to their ‘pressure’ to stay home. Attendance: it all adds up.

It is very pleasing to see that there has been improvement in attendance across the school, it is a priority of the school to have all our students ‘in class, on task and learning.’

SPORTS WRAP UP

Year 6 Oztag Wrap Up

The Year 6 Worongary Oztag side has completed a successful summer sports season by sealing the 6A trophy with a stunning 8-6 come from behind win against Elanora on Friday.

The win capped of a wonderful season for the 6A boys who managed to win all but one game all season.

It was also a successful season for the 6B side that had an undefeated run to the semi-finals before falling agonisingly short in the penultimate match to miss out on the grand finale.

The grand final was a true reflection of the wonderful attitude displayed by the boys all season with resilience and perseverance a common theme throughout Fridays match.

Despite falling behind 5-3 at one stage, the team continued to rally and lead by Captain Jack McK-M, managed to score five unanswered tries to seal the victory.

Other notable mentions include Kyen M who has proved to be ever reliable over this season’s campaign, Reico R who returned from serious injury to deliver an outstanding individual performance and Cambel H who played through a serious cork to prove the anchor in the midfield.

Ultimately, the result was a just reward for a team who were meticulous in their preparation and committed to improvement as they showed up to training twice a week for the past 12 weeks in their endeavour to seal that elusive grand final win that escaped the boys during the rugby league season.

A special mention must go to other year level coaches Mr Robert Oakley and Mr Tom McDonald who provided ample support both in training and during the games with the provision of extra players for training and playing.

Also, as he did with the rugby league team, Joshua Rogers proved an excellent understudy in his delivery of specialist skills and tactical coaching which helped the boys to further their skills in Oz-Tag.

Ultimately, it was a pleasure coaching the boys who had an excellent attitude and application all season and I wish them well in their featuring sporting endeavours.

Regards Mr Samuel Swift

Year 5 Oztag Wrap Up

What a successful season for the Year 5 Boy’s Oztag teams! One team making the semi’s and the other, only just missing out due to for and against. Well done boys! More importantly though, I have to thank all students for playing the season with integrity and always trying to perform to their best. Excellence starts with effort and attitude and from a coach’s perspective, I have been motivated and encouraged all season by having nearly the entire two teams turning up to training every week. So a big thank you to all students who helped in making this such a enjoyable season of Oztag and a big thank you to all parents for getting them to training, buying them equipment and supporting their sporting interests.

Regards Mr Tom McDonald
