From the Principal

Dear Parents,
Due to the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Department of Education extended the official Day process until Day 13 (last Thursday). With this period now expired, I am pleased to confirm that our quick response to creating a Year 1/2 and a Year 3/4 class has prevented any further class changes. I sincerely thank Mrs Kelly Ready, Mrs Kerry White and our entire teaching team for their outstanding level of professionalism during this period.
For your convenience, I have added the relevant email address for all of our current teaching staff members. Given the busy nature of our profession, it is sometimes easier to send through an email for later attention. If the matter is urgent, please do not hesitate to contact the office for assistance. I am looking forward to continuing to work closely with you to ensure your child is constantly striving for excellence.

In 2020, Worongary State School has once again aligned leadership responsibilities to each year level. During the school year, if you wish to raise any problems or concerns you will be directed to speak with your child’s class teacher (in the first instance). In the event that the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction, I then invite you to make contact with the appropriate school leader. Students in Prep to Year 2 will be led by Mrs Kerry White (kwhit85@eq.edu.au) while students in Years 3-Year 6 will be supported by Mrs Kelly Ready (kread5@eq.edu.au). Parents are welcome to also forward any concerns to me. My preferred method of contact is via email. All parents should be aware that, as I have almost 700 students linked to my Dojo account, messages can be easily missed. Parents wishing to get in contact with me are invited to email me directly at ldare1@eq.edu.au.
All parents are cordially invited to attend our 2020 Leadership Ceremony on Friday morning (21 February). This ceremony will commence at 9:30am in the school’s Hall. I look forward to joining with our invited guests and presenting our 2020 school leaders with their official badges.
Health Plans
Just a reminder for all parents of students with health support needs that we require your assistance to ensure your child safely participates in all aspects of school life, including camps and excursions. Health plans should be reviewed annually. It is critical that all Health plans, including equipment, medication or consumables required to manage your child’s health conditions while at school, are up to date. I am also required to ensure school staff receive training to best support your child. During the next week, we will be revisiting all of our current Health plans and contacting parents for additional information. If you child has recently commenced a Health plan please contact the office immediately.

Revised Procedures For Student Behaviour
Student behaviour procedures for Queensland state schools have been reviewed. There are now five procedures in the revised suite:
- Student discipline
- Cancellation of enrolment
- Restrictive practices
- Temporary removal of student property by school staff
- Refusal to enrol — Risk to safety or wellbeing.
These procedures provide greater clarity to address and support appropriate student behaviour and responses to inappropriate student behaviour. New fact sheets have also been developed to support parent understanding of the revised procedures. For more information, visit the Behaviour website. Worongary State School will be reflecting on our current policies and procedures during Semester 1. More information and updates will be provided at future P and C Association meetings and editions of the Pipeline.
Accident insurance cover for students
Some school activities and physical education, particularly contact sports, carry inherent risks of injury. Parents are advised that the department does not have Student Accident Insurance cover for students. If your child is injured at school as a result of an accident or incident, all costs associated with the injury, including medical costs, are the responsibility of the child, parent or caregiver.
Some incidental medical costs may be covered by Medicare. If parents have private health insurance, some costs may also be covered through the private health insurance. Any other costs would be borne by the parents. Student Accident Insurance is an insurance policy that pays certain benefits in certain circumstances should your child have an accident.
It is a personal decision for parents as to the types and levels of private insurance they arrange to cover their child for any accidental injury that may occur. Parents should contact their insurer or an approved Australian insurance broker for more information about student personal accident insurance cover for their child.
Parent Information Session
With clearer skies and considerable less rain on the ground, I am pleased to invite all parents to attend our annual Parent Information Session this afternoon Wednesday 19 February. Teachers will hold two identical sessions in their classrooms. The session times (below) are designed to support parents with children with multiple children to participate in a variety of class information sessions.
|
Session 1: |
3.15pm – 3.45pm |
|
Session 2: |
3.50 pm – 4.20 pm |
These sessions provide opportunities for our staff to share with parent’s information such as class structure, rules and routines. Each year level will be providing a team brochure to assist in communication between teachers and our parents. Please note that these meetings are not meant as individual Parent-Teacher Interviews. Formal Parent / Teacher interviews will take place on Wednesday 25 March. I hope to see as many parents in attendance as possible this afternoon.
Volunteers Workshop
On Friday 6 March, Mrs Kelly Ready will present Volunteer Workshop for 2020. Any parents or grandparent wishing to assist in classrooms or volunteer throughout the school are required to complete some form of training. This training will commence in the school Hall at 9:30am. Parents wishing to attend this training are asked to email Kelly Ready (kread5@eq.edu.au). Once this training module has been completed parents wishing to volunteer will be encouraged to speak to your child’s class teacher and confirm a suitable time to volunteer in their rooms. Please contact the school if you would like to obtain additional information on how you can enhance the educational opportunities our students receive through volunteering.
Parents’ and Citizens’ Association Meeting
The Worongary State School’s Parents’ and Citizens’ Association’s AGM meeting will be conducted on Wednesday 11 March at 4.30pm in the staffroom and the P&C monthly meeting will commence at 5.00pm after the AGM and to be conclude by 6:00pm. A key agenda item on this month’s agenda will be the setting of our 2020 air conditioning project goals. All parents are cordially invited to attend.
Student Council Representatives
Congratulations to the following students below who have been selected to represent their class and the student council in 2020. All representatives will receive their council badges at the Leadership Ceremony on Friday the 21 February commencing at 9.30 am.

RECORDERS YEAR 3 & 4
Learning to play the recorder is bringing so much joy to many of our Year 3 and 4 students. This week we learnt some simple songs using 3 new notes.
For homework students are practising these songs from memory and working on their gentle breathing. Practising in front of mirror can assist students to see if they are covering the holes correctly. Please encourage your child with positive feedback!

School Plus Worongary has made a positive start to the year at Worongary State School. The service has a fantastic team of educators in place that are child focused & committed to building positive trust-based relationships with the children and are working hard to provide quality engaging programs.
We are focused on ensuring all children and families feel welcome at the service and are developing a sense of connection and belonging. We have begun creating a School Plus ‘Belonging Tree’ that consists of children’s photos, drawings of their families and words from parents and carers.

We invite any families interested in sending their children to School Plus to bring them down to the School hall to meet the team and look at the environment. If you need to contact School Plus please phone 0477 883 990 or email worongary@schoolplus.com.au

School Crossings

Today a familiar sight around schools is the School Crossing Supervisor. Their role in the school community is to ensure that the students who cross the road at the children’s crossing do so in a safe manner.
Children crossing flags are displayed near crossings around schools before and after school hours when children are crossing the road. A children's crossing may be supervised.

School crossing supervisors use a hand-held stop sign to stop traffic and allow children to cross the road safely.
When the children’s crossing flags are on display, you must stop at the stop bars and give way to any to pedestrians on or entering the crossing (regardless of whether a crossing supervisor is present or not).

You must wait until all pedestrians have crossed the road and the crossing supervisor has returned to the footpath.
If you need to stop or park (picking up or dropping of passengers) your vehicle must be no closer than 20 metres on the approach side and 10 metres on the departure side of the crossing. These “NO STOPPING” areas are clearly marked with a no stopping sign.
Remember, road safety is everybody’s business.
Thanks for your assistance.
