From the Principal

Dear Worongary Community,
I am honoured to be offered the opportunity to lead your amazing school. I look forward to meeting you and engaging with the students during class and lunch time activities over the coming weeks. It was lovely meeting the students and some of the parents at the gates.
Over the last 14 years, as Principal in a variety of schools across Queensland, I have enjoyed building positive relationships with the students, staff, and parents in each school community.
I have been privileged to work with amazing teachers who continue to amaze me with their creativity, innovation and dedication to the students in their classes. I am very much looking forward to working with the staff at Worongary who I have heard great things about.
Let me share a few things about myself...
- My family includes my wife (fellow educator) and three beautiful children (Year 1, Prep and a 3 year old) who make me laugh every day!
- I enjoy trail running and have completed the 96km Kokoda Challenge 5 times.
- Wellbeing is very important to me personally and for the students, staff, and families in the schools I have led.
- I worked with Worongary SS, as a principal of the Nerang Alliance, between 2007 and 2009.
Transition of Prep and Year 1 Students
What a fantastic start to the week. Thank you to the parents and caregivers who supported the school in adhering to our Department Guidelines at drop off and pick up times.
It was lovely to see the Prep and Year 1 students’ beaming smiles, their keenness to learn and play with their friends. Please continue to remind your children which gate you will collect them from in the afternoon.
I will keep in contact with you regarding the transition of Years 2-6 back to Worongary State School as soon as I hear the announcement from our Department.
Afternoon Processes
All Prep students will be available for collection from the Main gate below the Prep classrooms from just before the bell. We request parents remember to practise social distancing while waiting.
Students from Year 1 – 6 can make their way to meet parents outside the school gates. Please make sure you communicate with your child where they will meet you after school.
If your child in Year 1 or 2 is not confident in moving to a designated meeting place, they can meet Miss Kath in the Junior Undercover Area. These children will be escorted to the Front gate near the driveway to the Kiss and Go where they can be collected. Continue to discuss any questions or concerns with your child’s teacher.
Learning at home
I continue to hear of the great work and diligence of the students in Years 2-6 who are learning from home. The engagement of the teachers and students has been very positive. I have seen some fantastic work submitted. I actively encourage students to continue submitting the work they have completed through either Dojo or by emailing their class teacher.
Student Attendance Survey
Thank you for completing the Student Attendance survey. The purpose of the survey is to gather information on whether your child/children will be physically attending school, undertaking home based learning or a combination of the two. This information allows the school to plan appropriate supervision of students that are attending school on any particular day. Please complete this survey for week 5 by this Thursday 4:00pm. It assists us immensely.

School Assembly
Assemblies will be conducted again this week with the Lego Masters theme. If you have not had the opportunity to watch it , you will be amazed. What a talented team of staff and students.

A huge highlight for me was the visit of our STEM students to assist me in the design of my Lego character for assembly. I am not sure who was more excited… the students or myself! I look forward to seeing the students’ Lego creations of building food that looks good enough to eat as Mr Mullaly’s challenge for the week. If you missed last week’s assembly, including the Dojo and Learning Vines Awards, please visit:
I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks at Worongary SS. You truly have a beautiful school.
Have a lovely weekend!
Regards,
Adam Brandt

Time to Listen

Listening and attention skills are vital in a child's development. When developing these skills, it is important that your child becomes an active listener, which means that they use what they hear from you and others as part of their communication process. By setting a good example and working with your child to develop these skills, you can give them academic and social advantages in the future.

Children retain information through their interactions with others and this includes language skills. The more your child listens to what others have to say, the better their vocabulary and communication become. Overall, listening and learning go hand in hand. Be consistent and always follow through (barring unforeseen circumstances). If you tell your child that they can earn a privilege for completing certain tasks or meeting certain expectations, stick to what you said (e.g., first homework, then TV).
While it is human nature to get upset, do your best to keep a calm tone when enforcing your rules with your child. Enforcing rules without yelling teaches your child that it is possible to stay calm and still get things accomplished even when you are frustrated or things aren’t going your way. This is a great example to set for your child.
We are looking forward to our students returning to school.
Kind Regards,
Ms Kaia
