From the Principal

It has been absolutely wonderful to return to normality and reward students traditionally on assembly. Parents of students who have been receiving Learning Vine Awards have been invited to attend. Thank you for your involvement and for supporting our COVID-19 safety plan during our assemblies. The smiles of students receiving awards has been brilliant, especially as they give me an “elbow” handshake.

At school, hygiene is paramount. Children are encouraged to wash their hands before entering the classroom, before going out to play, and before and after eating. Where soap and water is not available, hand sanitizer has been provided. This includes in all classrooms and learning spaces. Please encourage your children to practise good hygiene at home, especially before eating. To see the best way to wash hands and use sanitizer, please visit the WHO website at the link below.

From Behaviour Team

Weeks 5 and 6 Being in the Correct Area
We will:
Be seen by a teacher or adult
Be in the correct area before school, in the playground, at break times and after school
Student wellbeing is essential for both academic and social development and this is optimised by the provision of safe, supportive and respectful learning environments. Worongary State School shares this responsibility with the whole community.
Not only do confident, resilient children with a capacity for emotional intelligence perform better academically, these skills can also contribute to the creation of strong social bonds and supportive communities, and the maintenance of healthy relationships and responsible lifestyles. Together we are helping students develop capabilities which promote safety and wellbeing and lead to success in life.

Our behaviour focus for weeks 5 and 6 is Being Safe at School. We are discussing the importance of being in the correct areas. This ensures your children are • seen by a teacher or staff member• they are in correct area in the playground, before school and at break times • and after school they immediately make their way to their pick-up area or walk safely home.
Please take the time to discuss these issues with your children as their safety and well-being is our priority.
Regards, Ms Kaia Clarke, Behaviour

School Plus Worongary Newsletter 29/07/2020
Term 3 at School Plus has started very positively. School Plus Leaders have been busy with meetings, projects and assisting around the service. The Leaders have been working on items for our next Leader Newsletter. They have been promoting our Term 3 project - raising money for a Para golfer that assists paraplegics to stand to play golf, as well as generally assisting around the service. Awards have been issued to Leaders who have consistently modelled exceptional behavior.

As part of our ongoing acknowledgement & respect of our first Australians, we continue to Acknowledge Country daily and play traditional group games. We have also been telling dreaming stories and looking for the meanings and life lessons contained. Boomerang throwing has also been a popular activity. As we have an unusually high number of children that are left-handed, we have purchased a left-hand throwing boomerang!

The children’s interest in bugs, insects and nature has not waned this term, with them bringing in butterflies, silkworms and spiders to share with the group.

Gardening Club has also started with great enthusiasm.

A favourite after school activity last term was box sliding on the oval. This term Mr Ian is working with the children to create cardboard cars to slide in!

Science Club has continued to be popular! The group has been turning Cola clear, making spinning tops and creating square bubbles!
