Technology

As a parent of three young children, I know how hard it is to know the ins and outs of all the different apps, software, devices and social networks available for our children. In most cases, the children (including my 7 year old!) know more than the adults on how to access and use this technology.

I would to like share a small video, from Jason Gibson, a US-based tech and behaviour expert, on how to make a plan for technology, especially for when a child sees something they shouldn’t. This video covers:

  • Plan for when your child involuntarily sees something that they shouldn’t
  • Plan for when your child seeks out something that they shouldn’t
  • Plan for when you find out your child has accessed something that they shouldn’t

Please click the image below to watch the video.

#ElbowBump4Science during National Science Week

It's National Science Week, and we’re asking all students to celebrate the amazing work all scientists around the world, especially right here in Queensland, are doing every day to develop a COVID-19 vaccine.

We want you to show your support for all scientists and spread some hope by sharing a photo of your best #elbowbump4science, with our school community. Please add your best elbow bump under the Science Week Facebook post.

Year 6 Graduation

With schools and venues having to adhere to the latest COVID-19 protocols,

the school is investigating several options for conducting the Year 6 Graduation. Once we have all the details, we will consult with teachers, students and parents to evaluate the best option for the end of year event.

Camps

The Year 6 and Year 4 camps have been confirmed at the following dates and venues.

Year 6 – Thunderbird Park - 18/11/2020 - 20/11/2020

Year 5 - Thunderbird Park - 30/11/2020 - 2/12/2020

Year 4 – Runaway Bay Sport Centre - 25/11/2020 - 27/11/2020

The payment cost for each student is in the final stages of approval and these details will be available very soon as to give families time to save for these great student experiences.

Morning Procedures

Parents will be permitted to walk students to their designated before school waiting area. Parents are not permitted to remain with their child/ren and must exit the school grounds immediately. Staff will be supervising the following areas from 8:30am:

Prep – Outside Prep A
Year 1 and 2 – Junior Under Cover Area
Years 3 – 6 – Central Games

It is requested that students not come to school prior to 8:30am as there will be no staff supervision prior to this time.

For our Early Years students, many children have developed independence during this past term and parents are encouraged to allow children to continue to be responsible for carrying their belongings, placing their drink bottles, munch and crunch, and homework folders in the correct places. Many children will be confident enough to make their own way from the gate to the waiting areas and this should also be encouraged.

Schools Plus Before School

Parents are able to drop students off at School Plus at any time. Once children are signed in, parents are required to immediately leave the school grounds.

Before School Care (other than Schools Plus)

If your child attends before school care at a service off school grounds, Centre staff will be able to walk children to the appropriate waiting areas where school staff will assume responsibility of the children.

Fun weekend activities for families

Talking Families has released more new activities you can do together as a family.

They are centred on the theme Let nature get your thoughts in order, in recognition of nature’s positive impact on family wellbeing.

The Talking Families website is a great resource to support parents navigate the ins and outs of parenting.

For more information, visit the T alking Families website.

Domestic and family violence support

Help is available for families and young people affected by domestic and family violence.

The Queensland Government’s DFV Support website provides useful information and contact details for key services. Reach out, if you or someone you know is being impacted by domestic and family violence.

Nominate a Year 6 students who is making a different in their community

The Fred Hollows Foundation is calling for nominations for the Fred Hollows Humanity Award, which recognises Year 6 students who demonstrate compassion, integrity and kindness towards others.

Parents, teachers, principals and community members around the country can nominate a child in Year 6 who is making a difference at the Fred Hollows website before COB Friday 11 September.

A Junior Ambassador from Queensland will be recognised and extend their humanity by allocating $5,000, thanks to Specsavers, to one of The Foundation’s programs to end avoidable blindness.

Have a fantastic week ahead.

Adam Brandt

Every class is working on their door display, so we will let you know how you can vote for your favourite.

Thinking caps on to see if you can come up with a ‘wild’costume. You can relate it to the theme eg Willy Wonka must have one of the ‘wildest minds’ I’ve ever read about.

The prep classes welcomed the Henny Penny chicken hatching program over the last two weeks. It was huge hit with students in all year levels and staff.

Taking Pride in Our School

Behaving appropriately

Looking after school property

Looking after the school/Classroom environment

Week 5 and 6

Being in the Correct Area

We will:

  • Be seen by a teacher or adult
  • Be in the correct area in the playground, before school, break times and after school

Week 7 and 8

Look After our School and Classroom Environments

We will:

  • Look after school/classroom equipment
  • Pack up correctly
  • Use equipment for its intended purpose
  • Keep workspaces tidy
  • Clean up our classroom

While we encourage our students to keep track of their own materials our Lost Property bin is full to the brim with unnamed hats, jackets and lunchboxes.

Please clearly label personal items with your child’s name, or a personal symbol in a colour of their choice.

Encourage your child/ren to place library books, pencils, homework books, and other materials in their school bags ready for the new school day.

At Worongary State School, Mr Mullaly and Ms Thomson along with our Year 6 students run the Containers for Change Collection Program and a weekly recycle program.

Our students are required to ensure all eating areas are clean and all rubbish is put into bins at the end of our eating breaks. Mr Townson and Mr Bryden work tirelessly to maintain our school grounds. At the end of our school day our students neatly stack their chairs, put all their resources away, so our wonderful cleaners have access to all areas to ensure a clean working environment at the beginning of each school day.

We can only hope our students transfer these behaviours to keeping their bedrooms and play areas at home clean and tidy.

Kind Regards
Ms Kaia

School Plus

School Plus Worongary has had a busy start to Term 3 2020. On the 29th of July the service celebrated National OSHC Educator’s Day! Children made posters while staff were treated to cake certificates and a gift from management. It was a great day to celebrate our quality committed School Plus team!

At School Plus we have been building on our ‘You’ve Been Caught - Thank you’ display. This is a way to ensure we catch all the acts of kindness that come through our families and school community. From bringing in boxes and recycled containers to our fantastic school cleaning staff, we appreciate all efforts big and small!

School Plus Clubs continue to be popular this term. Science, Cooking and Gardening Clubs are progressing, with the student leaders preparing to commence Sport & Fitness Club in Week 7

Construction activities a have become even more popular this term. The children are extremely creative and often combine construction resources to create all types of magical creations

We look forward to a positive remainder of Term 3 and have already started planning for our Student Free Day & next Vacation Care!
