Principal Report
Welcome back to Worongary State School for an action packed Term 4 of learning and exciting events. Students have Jnr and Snr Sport Fun Days, swimming (P-2), Get Set for Prep, Life Education, Day for Daniel, Kokoda Training Sessions, Camps (Year 4,5,6), Lego League Regional competition, NAIDOC Assembly, End of Year Celebrations, Year 6 Leaving Ceremony, to name a few!!
On the schools website, the calendar is being continually updated with reminders of the upcoming events. There are many letters that will be sent home this term seeking responses from parents seeking permissions or simply sharing information. Please keep a look out for these letters in your children’s bags.
Classes 2021
Teachers and administration will be preparing for classes shortly. Classes are decided on many factors to support the learning of all students at Worongary. If you have a 2021 class request based on your child’s educational needs, please send me an email directly at principal@worongaryss.eq.edu.au with your request. Please note that not all requests may be possible and all requests will be made on a need’s basis.
Colour Run
The Colour Run, our P&C major fundraiser for 2020, will be held on 12 November. After being involved in many of these days, they are a huge amount of fun for all involved. The P&C are working very hard in making this an event to remember for the students.

Acknowledgement to Country
Last Tuesday, school captains, house captains and indigenous students we were taught about Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country. We learnt what each one is, why we use them and who can perform/write them. We were taught about ancestral ties and what they mean for Indigenous people. Together, we brainstormed some ideas to create a new Acknowledgement of Country for our school. I am very proud of the students and how they worked together to create our own acknowledgement of Country for Worongary State School. It reads:
Worongary State School acknowledges the Kombumerri peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our school is built.
We acknowledge the Kombumerri peoples continued connection to their Country, the flora and fauna and their particular connection to the Nerang and Coomera Rivers.
We respectfully acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, past, present and emerging.
Congratulations to our school leaders and indigenous students in Years 3-6 who participated in this workshop to create our own Acknowledgement to Country that will be used throughout the school and shared at school events.

Stay safe and positive online
Technology, apps and games are changing almost on a daily basis. Last week, students in the upper school attended a session from the cyber safety team from the Department of Education. The students had the opportunity to ask questions around the many social media platforms.
If you want to keep up to date and help your child have positive online experiences, then check out the many resources available to you online.
Visit the Cybersafety website for a range of advice and resources for parents and carers, plus information for primary and secondary school students.
Visit the eSafety Commissioner’s website for parent webinars, guides to the latest apps and games, and more.
Great resources are also available by following the Department of Education’s Cybersafety Facebook page for the latest news and advice on cybersafety.
Sporting Excellence – Well done Flynn!
Congratulations to Flynn in Year 6 who has had an amazing run of success on the squash court. Flynn recently competed in the State School Squash Championships, where the Met West under 15 boys won their division and the entire Met West team won the competition overall. First time in 30yrs.
Flynn also made it into the QLD school team. They take the top 5 from all combined teams in under 15 and then top 5 from 16-19 to make a team of 10 and even though this year's trans-Tasman tournament against New Zealand can't go ahead it is still a great honour to be selected.
Over the school holidays Flynn also became the QLD junior champion and made the QLD sharks team. Next up is the Australian junior championships! Well done Flynn for your numerous sporting achievements this season!

New student free days added to Term 4, 2020
