Dear parents and carers
Classes 2021
Teachers and administration are in the final stages of preparing classes for the 2021 year. If you have a 2021 class request based on your child’s educational needs, please send me an email directly at principal@worongaryss.eq.edu.au with your request by Friday 6 November. Please note that not all requests may be possible and all requests will be made on a need’s basis. Classes are decided on many factors to support the learning of all students at Worongary.

Let’s celebrate World Teachers’ Day on Friday 30 October
We are thanking our amazing Queensland teachers this World Teachers’ Day on Friday 30 October. Students and parents can get involved in the celebrations. Perhaps send your teacher a certificate or thank you card or maybe make your own celebratory paper bunting. Take a photo of one of the many local landmarks that are being lit up to thank our teachers.
There are lots of ideas to get involved on the website below.

Junior and Senior Sports Fun Days
Fun was certainly had during the Junior and Senior Sports Fun Days last week. There were plenty of laughs and cheers by the students (and teachers) as they competed in a range of events on our school oval.
A huge thank you to our PE Teacher Miss Meredith for organising a brilliant day!

Day for Daniel 2020

All students at Worongary State School will take part in Day for Daniel this Friday 30 October. We will have a special assembly, in a sea of red worn by staff and students on the school oval. This is such an important day to educate children on their personal safety in online and physical environments.
Visit the Daniel Morcombe website for free resources to empower children to “Recognise, React, Report” if they ever feel unsafe.
Life Education visit
Many of you who attended a school in the South East Corner of Queensland would recall a visit to meet Harold from Life Education. Harold is visiting all our classes over the coming two weeks.

New Reading and Writing Centre website

Parents and carers play a vital part in supporting children to read.
The Reading and Writing Centre has a new website to support parents and carers to improve children’s reading and writing skills. It provides useful resources to support children’s reading and writing at home and at school.
The website also provides contact details to the Advisory service for those looking for advice to help support students with their reading and writing.
For more information, visit the Reading and Writing Centre website.

2020 Year 6 Leaving Ceremony
In consultation with students, parents and the Year 6 teaching team and due to COVID-19 restrictions the administration team have discussed a revised format for the 2020 Year 6 Leaving Ceremony.
Various formats and factors were considered, but it was decided to hold one ceremony in the school hall so all Year 6 students could attend as a year level, without parents/family (due to COVID-19 restrictions), with the event being filmed and provided to students and families.
The Year 6 Leaving Ceremony will be conducted on Tuesday 8 December starting at 9:00am in the school hall. We thank everyone for their input in the consultation process.
Regards,
Chris Wood
Deputy Principal

From Behaviour Team

Each year our school supports the Daniel Morcombe Foundation that was established in honour of Daniel Morcombe to make Australia a safer place for children. The aims of the Foundation are to educate children and young people about how to stay safe in physical and online environments and to support young victims of crime. You may like to use the links below to access information.

On Friday 30 October our school will participate in the Australia wide Day for Daniel Memorial Service.
We encourage our students to wear a red t-shirt and bring a gold coin donation.
All monies raised goes to the Daniel Morecombe Foundation. Our students will participate in a school assembly and in variety of child safe activities to encourage awareness of ‘Keeping Safe’.

SECOND-HAND UNIFORMS WANTED
We are in desperate need of 2nd hand polo shirts in sizes 10, 12 & 14 for our senior school students. If you are having a sort out over the holidays we would very much appreciate your hand-me-downs. We have plenty of smaller sizes for our junior school students should they need them.
UNDIES
We are always in need of undies – especially for little girls. Any hand-me-downs would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS
Kath Welch
Dear Parents and Families:

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
- Set the example. Let children see you read.
- Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills.
- Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
The theme of our Scholastic Book Fair is Arctic Adventure, where we hope you will find snow much to read!
It’s a fun reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits. Keep your eyes peeled for our brochures that will be sent home next week.
Book Fair dates: 18th to 27th November
Shopping hours: 8-9am and 3- 3.45pm (Limited numbers, students only. Parents by appointment)
Special activities: Parents’ Afternoon 3.30 – 5.30pm (By appointment due to Covid number restrictions) Please email Mrs Connor on jconn31@eq.edu.au to book a time.
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

Uniform Ordering for Prep 2021
It’s not too early to think about pre-ordering uniforms for Prep 2021. Please read below for information on how to do so:
Option 1: Purchase/Order at the Uniform Shop
The Uniform Shop is located in the Central Undercover Games area. Uniforms can be purchased here during the opening hours listed above. We recommend bringing your child along for sizing.
Option 2: Purchase Online
Online purchasing is available for future Preps. Go to the school website and follow the link on the home page (located at the bottom under the heading Quicklinks) for Uniforms Online where you can set up an account. If you choose to purchase online, the following collection options are available:
- Order online and have the uniforms collected by a sibling already at the school.
- The nominated sibling will receive a note in their class Tuckshop basket to advise when the order is ready for collection.
- Order online and collect from the administration office at your convenience.
- We will call you when the order has been processed and is ready for collection.
- Order online and collect at the next Get Set for Prep session.
Please add a note in the comments section to let us know your preference.
Please Note: we may be unable to supply all required items this year. Some items may need to be pre-ordered and collected next year once we receive delivery of stock. Our back to school open hours will be advertised here towards the end of the year.
If you have any queries please call the Uniform Shop during the opening hours outlined above, or leave a voice message after hours and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Kind regards,
Michelle Lee

The biggest fundraiser of the year!!
2020 has been left much to be desired when it comes to fun…which includes the ‘Fun’ In Fundraising. This year we wish to make this Colour Explosion Run4Fun bigger better and more colourful than last year. However we still need to comply with Covid Safe Event Planning Requirements. But hey, after a good storm there is always a greater Rainbow! The voluntary WSS P&C executives conduct a lot of planning for the event and we hope the event goes off with a blast! A colourful one at that!

Important dates for Colour Run;-
- Event is Thursday 12 November 2020 between 11:30am and 3pm.
- There is a minimum of $10 required to be fundraised to participate in the event and are also entitled to an incentive prize!
- In addition, every participant gets to run in and over the inflatable obstacles and other fun activities, it includes the coloured powder used throughout the even. Each Participant gets a pair of coloured sunglasses and a sachet of colour for their year level ‘Colour Finale Explosion’ event at the end of the run.
- All Parent/Guardian Consent forms MUST be returned to the Office on or by Friday 30th October 2020. Late Submissions will not be accepted and could forfeit your child’s participation in the event.
- Last day to return sponsorship forms & Fundraising money to the Tuckshop is Friday 6th November 2020.
- Last day to order online incentive prizes is Monday 9th November 2020
ALL MONIES RAISED WILL GO TOWARDS UPGRADES TO THE STUDENT PLAYGROUNDS & AREAS.

Banking Is every Friday (except the last day of school terms). Our School Banking program has exciting rewards to encourage children to practice good savings habits and, just by saving and banking your money in your Youthsaver account, Commonwealth Bank will support the WSS P&C and contribute towards our ‘Cool School Initiative Projects’. The Youthsaver account is a savings account with no monthly fees and has competitive bonus interest rates, and further, your child can obtain incentive prizes just for saving! How cool is that!? If you wish your child to be a Youthsaver,

GRADUATION
Thank you to all the families that supported the Graduation fundraiser by purchasing a signature item for your graduate as a memento of their time here at Worongary State School. On Friday the 16th October, the plush items were delivered to their nominated classrooms to meet their new families. However, there was a delay in the Graduation frame and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Unfortunately, “Covid” waved its nasty wand again and this affected the delivery of our advertised Graduation Frames. However, the WSS P&C put on the super capes once again and saved the day by being able to source another Graduation Signature Frame for our Graduates. They will be disseminated as soon as possible upon their arrival. DID YOU KNOW??? The money raised for this fundraiser is being injected right back into the year 6 Graduation. Together, we raised approximately $180 – Congratulations and Great work Team Worongary!
