Keep an eye out for her feature story shortly on our schools Facebook page and potentially on televised on Channel 7. Congratulations Ms Sabljak!

Well Done 1E
I am very much enjoying the assemblies currently with our first student performance of the year. 1E performed like stars last week on assembly singing the attendance song that aligned with our school PBL focus for the week - Being a Learner By Being On Time. Well done 1E!

Dear Parents and Carers
Next Friday, March 19 Worongary State School is joining schools and organisations’ around Australia to celebrate Harmony Day and Bullying - No Way Day. At Worongary State School it is a tradition to combine these two days.
Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Harmony Day is held every year on 21 March to coincide with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Bullying – No Way Day, is a National Day of Action that affords everyone in our school community the opportunity to acknowledge that bullying and violence by anyone is not to be accepted.
The message of Harmony Day and Bullying – No Way Day is everyone belongs and their individuality is to be celebrated. At Worongary State School this special day is used to celebrate Australia’s diversity and promote caring and tolerance of every person – a day of respect. Please visit the Bullying. No Way! Website (www.bullyingnoway.gov.au) for practical advice and information to help you and your families work together against bullying.
This year, on Friday 19/3 students are invited to come to school wearing orange T-shirt. Please do not purchase a new orange t-shirt this for this day. This is not a free dress day and students are required to wear the correct school shorts or skort, black shoes and white socks. Classes will be participating in group activities throughout the week and on Friday, at lunch time, our playground leaders will be running games and activities on the ovals for all students to participate in.

Why orange?
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
Please note students are not permitted to colour their hair.

HEALTH ROOM
Over-the-counter medications
The Department recognises that all medications, including over-the-counter (OTC) medications, e.g. paracetamol or alternative medicines, may be drugs or poisons and may cause side effects. As such, schools are required to receive medical authorisation from a prescribing health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist, optometrist, but not a pharmacist) to administer any medication to students, including those bought over-the-counter.
Whilst parents may administer OTC medications to their child without medical authorisation, they are aware of the child’s complete medical history, and are able to provide ongoing, direct supervision for the course of the child’s illness. Due to these circumstances, a parent is also more likely to recognise if their child is having adverse effects and requires immediate medical attention.
The student’s prescribing health practitioner also has the knowledge of the child’s medical history to determine the appropriate OTC medication to administer and is therefore able to determine dosage and provide advice regarding potential side effects or interactions with other medications.
For these reasons, OTC medications will only be administered to students at school if medical authorisation has been received.
