An afternoon of Music
A huge congratulations to our band, strings and choir students who performed to a hall of parents on Monday. They were fantastic! The practise does pay off for the students as they showcased what they have been learning during their lessons. I was very proud of the beginning band and ensemble who only started playing an instrument this year. These students demonstrated their persistence and hard work learning a new instrument. Thank you to the parents for your support in the evenings allowing your children to practise the skills learnt in the lesson. A special mentions to our amazing teachers. Thank you for organising a fantastic event!
Healthy Harrold visits Worongary
If you grew up on the Gold Coast, you grew up with Healthy Harrold! The Healthy Harrold van has been the classroom for students to participate in a range of lessons over the last two weeks. I heard very positive feedback from students and teachers alike around the program.
Before School Arrival
Children are supervised from 8.30am every day with a teacher on duty. I encourage parents to utilise our before school care facility if you know your child will be arriving earlier than this time. Please contact Maria on 0477883990 to enrol and book a session.
End of Semester Assembly
It was a privilege to share the successes and persistence of our students at the end of semester assemblies. I truly believe every child can learn and every child achieve in their schooling. I encourage students to continue to ask their teacher questions to gain understanding in class, with their specialists and with their parents.
Year 4 Rugby League make the grand finals
Congratulations to the Year 4 boys Worongary Rugby League team who made the grand final, competing again Burleigh Heads State School on Monday. The boys fought back very hard in the second half to just miss out on the win, going down by 2 points. The boys did so well and it was amazing to watch!

Year 6 Camp at Emu Gully
The Year 6 students travelled to Emu Gully with 4 dedicated teachers. The students completed many team activities and demonstrated a high level of team work skills. Thank you to our teachers for leaving your own families to be with the students over the three days.
Please have a safe and happy holiday, I look forward to seeing you next term.
Kind Regards,
Adam Brandt

Hello Everyone
Do you have any unwanted toys at home? Is it time for a clean and de-clutter?
The Year 1 and 2 students would greatly benefit from any donations (Lego, dolls and clothes, blocks, cars, Duplo, games, puzzles, skipping ropes, ANYTHING!). We have a very successful break time, social skill play program in place and would appreciate adding to our activity resources. Play is very important at any age and through this program many junior friendships have been developed and built, resulting in lasting positive relationships. It has also been a great way to encourage and include students who have difficulty making friends, or joining into a group.
Some of the potential benefits of play are:
- taking more responsibility for certain behaviours
- developing coping strategies and creative problem-solving skills
- self-respect
- empathy and respect for others
- alleviation of anxiety
- learning to fully experience and express feelings
- stronger social skills

Play can also encourage the use of language or improve fine and gross motor skills.
Any donations accepted. Can you help?
Thank you

Persistence!
The road to success in music is often arduous. There is no such thing as an overnight success. While many artists seem to appear out of nowhere, I guarantee, there are years of hard work and dedication, setbacks, and even failures they have had to experience to get to where they are today.
What’s it called when you experience pitfalls, when things don’t go to plan, but you dust yourself off and get back up again? Persistence. And there’s arguably nothing in the world more critical for achieving your goals.
Many talented musicians try and fail and there is no shame in that. Many musicians divert career paths to adapt to changing personal circumstances. I implore our young musicians not to throw in the towel just yet!!
What Does Persistence Really Mean?
Ultimately, you alone are responsible for your success. It’s earned. If you have a purpose and a passion for achieving your goals, then persistence is a key.
Yet, persistence means to continue on a chosen course, despite difficulties or opposition, something all musicians experience. An unwavering determination and a willingness to succeed is the mindset that separates those who make it, from those who fall short.
Those equipped with a persistent mindset are hungrier for success and will do what’s necessary to achieve their goals.
Success Takes a Long Time
As mentioned earlier, there is no such thing as an overnight success. It takes a long time but if you love what you do, it will not feel like a chore.
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.”
Calvin Coolidge

An Afternoon of Music Concert
Last Monday over 150 students performed for the Worongary community at our ‘Afternoon of Music’ Twilight Concert in the School Hall.
To say our performers were a ‘little excited’ would be a huge understatement!
Congratulations to all the members of Beginner Band, Beginner Strings, Concert Band, Advanced Strings and Junior and Senior Choir. You did an amazing job! A big thank-you also to the families of the performers, without your enthusiasm and support our students would not be so successful!
A big thank-you also to the many staff that assisted in making the event possible, in particular – Miss Sarah Larmor, Miss Kerri Buchanan, Mrs Koari Dwyer, Mr Adam Brandt, Mr David Clancy, all the Office Ladies, Ms Lyndsey, Ms Danielle and our Groundsmen Mark and Glenn.

UPCOMING NAIDOC PERFORMANCES - JUNIOR AND SENIOR SCHOOL
Early in Term 3, WYNISS a Torres Strait Islander Music, Dance and Cultural group is coming to Worongary! There will be two performances for all children in the Junior and Senior School and not to be missed!
A permission form and invoice were emailed home last week. If you require a ‘hard copy’ of the Parent Information please Dojo Miss Jones or your child’s classroom teacher.

Rehearsals and Lessons Term 3
All groups will re-commence rehearsals and lessons in Week 1 Term 3. Have a great break, keep practising and we look forward to making great music together in Term 3!
Yours in Music

It was with heavy hearts that School Plus Worongary said goodbye to educator Ian Jones on 4 June 21. Ian secured a full-time position coaching and mentoring young golfers training for the Special Olympics. The children, educators & families acknowledged and gave Ian a wonderful send off. We wish Ian well in his future endeavours.
We received fantastic news this week, that our NAPCAN Child Protection Week 2021 Neighborhood Art entry was successful and will become one of the main National Child Protection Week 2021 Posters! We are excited that our children’s artwork around this important topic, will be seen around Australia. The children and the team are thrilled at this achievement.

Over the past 2 weeks the service has focused on National Sorry Day & Reconciliation Week. The children have embraced dreaming stories & looking for life-lessons, numerous activities that acknowledge & celebrate our first Australians. This includes traditional games, cooking johnny cakes, art & craft activities as well as many group time discussions looking at rights & equality.

With many illnesses cropping up recently we felt it would be timely to program experiences and discussions around the importance of handwashing. During Science Club Miss Laura conducted an experiment using bread. The children touched bread after washing hands with water, soap and without washing at all. Over the following week children watched mould grow with results that clearly showed that unwashed hands carried the most germs. The results were shared in group times with the children. We are also encouraging the children by issuing Handwashing Certificates.

Educators are busy planning for the upcoming Vacation Care period. Excursions to Zone 10 Pin Bowling & Tropical Fruit World have been planned as well as Incursions including an inflatable Obstacle Course and Discovery Dome Gem fossicking. There are also a number of exciting in themed days being planned. The days are filling quickly so please get in and make bookings asap so you don’t miss out!!
