From the Principal

Welcome back to Worongary State School after the two-week June/July holidays. I hope you had a brilliant break with your children spending quality time with your family and friends.
Worongary State School will continue its relentless focus over the term on the key goals within our 4 Year Strategic Plan, being:
- A consistent approach to Teaching, Learning, Assessment and Reporting.
- Striving for Excellence – An Inclusive Approach
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths
We will continue to work towards these goals utilising regional staff and external providers to ensure success in these areas.
School Review 19-23 August
Every Queensland state school is reviewed at least once every 4 years. The reviews are performed by the Education Improvement Branch and are tailored to the needs and context of each school. Your feedback is vital for the review so we can plan for the next 4-year school cycle of the school. The school review is planned for 19-23 August 2021. I am very much looking forward to the visit by reviewers of the Education Improvement Branch visit later this term and look forward to continuing to focus on student improvement. For further information please read the fact sheet for parents and the community.
Semester One Report Cards
At the end of last term, report cards were sent out to parents via email. If you did not receive your child’s report card or have any questions regarding it, please contact your class teacher to seek clarification. On assembly last week, I encouraged students to focus on their individual goals and what they want to achieve for the semester ahead being a learner.
Athletics Carnivals
Well done to all students for their efforts and the support of each other during the Athletics Carnivals over the two weeks. The House spirit was present with a huge amount of cheering and support on the day. It was great to see parents attending to support their children on the day – we are so lucky to still be able to have visitors on site. Congratulations Mr Jay for a positive carnival and commentary throughout the day.
Kokoda Challenge 2021
16 of our students and 4 staff took just over 5 hours to complete 17km challenge in the Nerang Forest. Worongary decided all teams would walk together as a large group, rather than 4 smaller teams. The journey ended with headlights and howling winds, and scary bush stories included (thanks Mr Viccars!). The team were very supportive, encouraging and patient with each other. A huge thank you to everyone who donated! All staff and parents were extremely proud! Well done Worongary! We are looking forward to inviting the current Year 5 students to participate in 2022. Watch this space!!

Tuckshop will remain closed
The tuckshop will continue to remain closed as the P&C are upgrading the facilities and in the recruitment process for a tuckshop convenor. Thank you for your understanding during this time.
Kind Regards,
Adam Brandt
Principal

Book Week

Get your thinking caps on, it’s time to create those amazing costumes for your children.
Book Week is here again – Week 7. Grandparents/Family Day is Wednesday 25th August
A full timetable/schedule will come out in next issue, but fingers crossed that most restrictions will have been lifted by then.
We WILL be having dress up parades for the children, and our art gallery in the Hall is in full swing. The theme this year should give you plenty of ideas.
Old worlds – historical, ancient, dreamtime
New Worlds – space, aliens, robotics
Other worlds – fantasy (Oz, Wonderland, Chocolate Factory, Narnia, Hogwarts etc), underwater world, animal world
Please don’t feel the need to buy expensive costumes. Get creative with your ideas, you have 5-6 weeks. Can’t wait to see how your imagination runs wild!
Of course, due to those myriad Covid restrictions, there will be NO class visits, and the Hall viewing times will be strictly adhered to, to ensure that we do not breech any space regulations.
For your convenience this year, we will have a QR check in code, so if you have the Check In Qld app on your phone, you can just scan at the gate as you enter the school grounds.

P&C NEWS
The WSS P&C is “under construction”, what does this mean? We are trying to get all the required Policy & Procedures, Employee handbooks, Volunteer Handbooks up-to-date and all P&C operations are included in this task. There are many Policies and Procedures the P&C are subjected to and are to be held accountable for. Most are not aware, that the P&C has many 'behind the scene' items which we have to also complete, and most of these are every year. We are hoping to get back to doing a happy fundraising item this year for our awesome students and School Community.... We just have some 'homework' to do first.
UNIFORM STORE
The uniform store is now completely run by volunteers, this being mainly the executive team. Unfortunately, we have been out of stock on a number of items. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and understand the frustrations you may be experiencing. We would like to advise that we have placed a large order over a month ago and are experiencing the effects of COVID-19 when it comes to manufacturing and delivering. As a result, the P&C have decided to place a large order ready for next year’s back to school requirements (very early) in an attempt to avoid any delay for next year.
We also placed an order for plain wide brim maroon hats of various sizes, through a local company- this order is due to arrive this week. This lot does not have the school Logo on them this time, to avoid any further delay and will be offered for purchase at a cheaper rate as a result. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for an announcement when they arrive. Please go to the link below - insert Worongary State School, log in or create a profile and place an order today. If you are unable to purchase a particular item in a size online, it is because we are currently out of stock.

TUCKSHOP
The WSS Executive team has been very busy within the tuckshop. We are completing some minor cosmetic changes, and we have received a number of applicants for our new Tuckshop Catering Manager position. We hope to have this finalised very soon and be up and running with something new and improved. We thank you for your understanding and ongoing support during this down time. We hope to welcome a new manager and volunteers soon.
To keep costs down, we hope to see some new and old volunteers assist us in our tuckshop operations.
The hours of power required are between 9am-midday (3 hrs). If you are able to assist, whether it be for half an hour a day, week, fortnightly or monthly- we would appreciate your company. Duties to be fulfilled could be assisting with prepping, baking, portioning packaging, and serving daily. When the time is right, come join us, meet new people, get involved and/or join with a buddy. We would love to meet you. If you wish to find out more about being a volunteer at our tuckshop, please email the WSS P&C at tuckshop@worongarysss.eq.edu.au with the subject header Volunteering and we will happily forward you an induction handbook to meet health requirements.
PLAYGROUND Update
We have had to place this on hold for a short moment due to the current construction around the school for the Cools Schools- Air conditioning project. Once this has been finished, we hope to get some action occurring, we will be consulting with some of our students and teachers in due time.
Term 3 FUNDRAISING
We hope to bring a special fundraiser soon.... we hope the school community can continue to support our fundraising efforts and hope you enjoy them as well. Stay tuned....
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
Our Term 3 can collection started the first week back. If you would like a collection bag, please email pandc@worongaryss.eq.edu for one to be delivered to your child's class to take home. All collection proceeds go directly to our Cool School Initiative Projects for the school. The dates for this term are as follows:

REQUEST DONATION SUPPLIES

If so, could you please email us at pandc@worongaryss.eq.edu.au of your intention so to avoid double ups. We greatly appreciate your contributions in advance:
