From the Principal

Staff Appreciation day

Thank you to the amazing staff at Worongary State School. We are very lucky to have a team of amazing staff at our school who all contribute, in various ways, to support the growth, development and learning environment best for student learning.

The theme for 2021 – Strong communities, successful students – exemplifies how school communities have come together over the past 18 months during the COVID-19 pandemic to fulfil our main purpose of students succeeding.

Parents and community members, thank you for your support to help provide an excellent education to Worongary students.

Thank you to our tuckshop staff and P&C for your support today in assisting the catering for a staff appreciation breakfast. It was amazing!!

Day for Daniel

Every child has a right to feel safe. This message was shared with students at the school assemblies and reinforced in the classrooms by the teachers. Thank you to all the staff and students who brought in donations and wore red on Friday 29 October 2021. There are some brilliant resources for you to access at the link below:

School Review 2-4 November

Every Queensland state school is reviewed by the Education Improvement Branch (EIB) at least once every four years. The reviews play an important part in how the department supports school improvement. They provide schools with independent feedback, tailored to their context and needs. Principals use the review findings to work with their school community and assistant regional director (or principal supervisor) to develop clear actions to move the school forward.

Review process

Reviews are conducted by experienced educators trained in the use of the National School Improvement Tool, a nationally [1] recognised framework for reviewing teaching and learning practices. Review teams generally consists of two to four reviewers, but the number of reviewers and length of each review depends upon a range of factors, including the size and context of the school. Reviewers look closely at each school’s performance data and speak with a wide range of staff, students, parents and community members to get an accurate picture of the school. Unlike many other review systems, schools aren’t ranked or given a performance rating. Instead, the school is given a comprehensive report for consideration. The report details key findings and recommended improvement strategies to maximise student outcomes. Principals are encouraged to share this information with their staff and school community to help shape the school’s strategic direction.

Parent and community participation feedback from parents and the community is an important part of school reviews, with everyone encouraged to have their say.

Regards,

Adam

On Friday 29 October we recognise Day for Daniel. This is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day. Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. The theme is ‘Wear Red, Educate and Donate’. Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety. Day for Daniel is the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Fundraising helps the organisation continue our free education programs, resource development, and support for young victims of crime.

FROM THE JAPANESE ROOM

Konnichiwa!

Students are creating lovely family trees and practising names and ages in kanji and script. We practise the 4 macro skills of read, write, listen and speaking in class to gain confidence and skills going onto study Japanese in the high school. Person wa age sai desu! Please practise at home! This week we also studied how to express our likes (suki) and dislikes (suki ja nai ) desu and incorporated family, pets, hobbies, food and sports into our conversations. To solidify this, we will have learning stations next week to practise work from the last 3 weeks to gain confidence in our language skills.

Students get ‘brain-breaks’ for a few mins with my bonsai trees and many students are actively helping me prune and care for the bonsai trees in our Japan Club. We learn Japanese words and use our script in keeping with the content of lessons. We can say the colours and apply these skills in real situations as the maple tree is red. Momiji wa akai desu.

Japanese Fact: Did you know that ‘4’ 四 is considered unlucky and is part of the word that means to die – shinde, しんでso we use ‘yon’ for 4 instead!

Term 4 has started well at School Plus Worongary, it’s hard to believe the end of the year is so close! School Plus Clubs for Term 4 are up and running. The Dance Club have been busy putting routines together, Boomerang Club is growing with more children learning how to throw & catch Boomerangs, Homework Club is growing and Cooking Club has enjoyed making Teddys in Cars. Gardening Club have loved all this recent rain as the gardens are thriving, the children harvested beans & peas this week. The children were amazed at how much nicer fresh vegetables tasted over store bought. Pokemon Club has been introduced on a Wednesday as Pokemon cards have become popular again.

Other projects this term include participating in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count. Every day for 20 minutes we look for and count our local birds.

We have downloaded the App on our iPads and we record the numbers and types of birds we see.

The Children at School Plus have also been designing posters of support for the Australian Winter Olympic team to be displayed at the Olympic Village in Feb 2022

School Plus was involved in the WSS Get Set for Prep welcome & information session on 21/10/21. It was lovely to see so many children and families excited about their first year at school in 2022. Educators provided School Plus information to the new families as well as balloons, stickers and bag tags for new Prep children that will be attending. School Plus Leaders also assisted with delivering this information.

We are looking forward to what else Term 4 2021 brings!

Tuckshop Day 2021- Friday 5th November

Tuckshop Day is held on the first Friday in November to recognise and give a special thank you to all tuckshop workers and volunteers across Queensland state schools.

It also highlights the important role tuckshops play in school life. Providing nutritious food and drinks means families can have one less task to worry about at the start of their day, and helps students to concentrate and learn well in class.

Tuckshop Day provides an opportunity to give a special thank you to all tuckshop workers & volunteers and recognise the valuable role these teams play in every school.

Uniform Store

The uniform store is now live on the QKR! App and you can conduct your orders! Yes, that’s right, we have stock!
