From the Principal

Afternoon of music
Students in our music programs shared performances with a hall filled with parents and family members. Students did a fantastic job. A huge thank you to our teachers who practice before school, after school and in their lunch breaks to help students be the best they can be. Thank you to the parents and family members who came to watch the students perform.
Choir performances
It was fantastic to see the choir share their skills to their respective assemblies. A huge thank you to Mrs Dywer who came to accompany the students playing the piano.
STEM update
On Wednesday 10th November, a team of 20 students from Year 5 and Year 6 students (including members of our STEM Excellence Program) represented Worongary State School at the 2021 Primary School STEM Challenge Gold Coast Final. This was a team challenge tournament involving several Gold Coast schools and was held at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus. Thank you to Merrimac State High School, Pacific Pines State High School and Griffith University for providing such great experiences for our students. Congratulations to our team for their hard work and learning on the day.
Overall, Worongary State School placed 3rd in the event. Also, a huge thank you to our parents and families for their continued support of our STEM program as well as assisting with transport to and from the venue on the day.

I would also like to wish the students who are competing at the Northern National First Lego League competition in December every success. Not only will they be competing against other primary schools across the State, they will be competing with high schools also. Good luck students!!
Congratulations School Captains 2022
I would like to congratulate all year 5 students on their speeches to their cohort. Students spoke of the pride they have at Worongary and how they could lead student initiatives into the future. It was absolutely lovely to hear.
I am very pleased to announce the following students as the 2022 school captains:
School Captains: Sabastian C and Ashley T
School Vice-Captains: Tavite N and Ruby P.
Congratulations to these students and we all wish you every success in 2022!

Sorry Business
It is with deep sadness that we would like to inform that on Saturday morning Senior Elder of the Kombumerri Ngarang-Wal Saltwater People of the Gold Coast, Uncle Graham Dillon entered the Dreaming.
Uncle Graham was the founding president of the Gold Coast Aboriginal and Islander Housing Co-Op which transitioned into Kalwun Aboriginal Development Corporation, an Elder in Residence at Griffith University (Gold Coast Campus), and was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2001 for his continued service to the Community and Aboriginal Welfare. Our thoughts are with the family, friends and community members who knew Uncle Graham.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

The eSafety education team presented to our students in Years 4,5 and 6 on Thursday 18th November.
It was beneficial for our students as they learn to safely navigate age appropriate social media and its content. The eSafety commission have dedicated parent/carer resources.
https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/skills-advice/online-safety-basics
As we begin to look back on our year, our focus is Speaking Respectfully
We will:
- Use words to communicate
- Speak appropriately – tone and volume
- Use positive school manners
Communicating Positively with Children
Positive communication is an essential part of all healthy relationships. It builds mutual respect, trust, connection, and nurtures your child’s self-esteem. The parent-carer/child relationship is our first place for learning how relationships should be. Therefore, when we set the standard for healthy, positive communication now, children develop skills that will help them build healthy relationships lifelong.
Kind Regards
Ms Kaia
FROM THE MUSIC ROOM
Music performance teaches young people to conquer fear and to take risks. A little anxiety is a good thing, and something that will occur often in life. Dealing with it early and often makes it less of a problem later. Risk-taking is essential if a child is to fully develop his or her potential.
Dr Anita Collins

THANK-YOU MUSIC CAPTAINS

The three captains have been an inspiration to our younger students and showed quality leadership throughout 2021. We look forward to hearing of your future successes as you move into the next phase of your learning.

P&C NEWS
PLAYGROUND
The WSS P&C are working collaboratively with our school in our playground revamp project. We have a few Grants in motion and will be liaising with playground companies of possibilities.
Unfortunately, and unexpectedly, the wooden structure items of our Junior Playground area have aged and encountered damage due to weathering conditions. We are looking at the best way to distribute our fundraising efforts from our 2020 & 2021 Colour & slime Explosion runs amongst the plethora of Playground possibilities. We are very excited to have some wheels in motion. However please understand that the process takes a lot of time and we hope to have it started in 2022.

It has been a busy time at School Plus Worongary. Children’s Week was celebrated from 23-31st October. The Children’s Week National Theme for 2021 was based on UNCRC Article 15; Children have the right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others. To celebrate Children’s Week at School Plus we discussed the theme and what this means to the children. We have been drawing our friends, taking Children’s Week photos, cooking cupcakes, and celebrating with some treats!

After raising donations for the Animal Welfare League QLD, Educator Miss Kate dropped off the donations & card from School Plus Worongary. The AWL QLD were very happy with the donations and loved reading the messages in the card. Well done to everyone who donated, it was greatly appreciated.

The School Plus Worongary Leaders have continued to meet each fortnight. These meetings are very productive with the leaders taking tasks on around the service. These include helping with younger children, set up/ pack away assistance, community projects and creating a Leaders Newsletter. The Term 4 Newsletter is now hot off the press!

As it warms up in summer School Plus continues to discuss Sun Safety with the children including the importance of wearing hats and sunscreen, staying hydrated and further exploring what the UV Index means. Each morning a child checks the Sun Smart App and transfers the information onto the A-frame school plus sign at the front of the service.

Other School Plus fun this fortnight!

Our Vacation Care program for December/January has been released! We can’t wait to share all the fun we have planned, contact us now if you would like to book in. Get in quick, some of these days are going to be very popular!
