From the Principal

Welcome back to the start of Term 2! Thank you for the lovely messages around the safe arrival of Ella whilst on Paternity Leave at the end of the last term. She is very much loved in our house and receiving plenty of cuddles from all of us – especially her 3 siblings!

I would like to thank Shiree for her leadership whilst I have been on leave. Also thank you to Sienna for her role in Acting Principal during this time. We certainly have a depth of knowledgeable staff at Worongary State School.

I hope that your children have returned refreshed, recharged, energised and ready for the new term. What a Term 1! This was arguably one of the most challenging terms we have experienced with COVID changes, flooding, school closures, changes to school closures and one where change has been expected in many facets’ in schools across Queensland. I very much look forward to continue our relentless focus on teaching and learning this term and engaging all our students to finish off the semester successfully.

ANZAC Services

I would like to thank Danny Morris from Nerang RSL for his lovely address to our students at both the Junior and Senior ANZAC Services. I would also like to congratulate our student leaders, choir and staff for their contribution to the services to truly make this student driven. It was beautiful. A special thank you to Mrs Williamson who coordinated the services at school.

On Monday 25 April 2022, our incredible students, sat without complaint, in the pouring rain and muddy grass at the Nerang ANZAC Service. They represented the school with upmost respect and pride as in their attendance. You surely did our school proud!

Active School Travel Launch

I am very much looking forward to the launch of our school’s participation as an Active School Travel school. Please save the date Wednesday 11 May. I cannot wait to see students and parents walking, riding and on their scooters actively arriving to school. Keep a look out in your emails and on Dojo for further information regarding this event.

Have a brilliant term and looking forward to popping into your classrooms.

Regards,
Adam Brandt
Principal

TIMETABLE CLASHES!

Term 2 is very busy! Interschool sport has recommenced and at times, our students can experience a clash in their schedules. Worongary State School is getting active about travel in 2022!

We’ve commenced a partnership with the City of Gold Coast, to increase the number of students travelling actively to school and reduce congestion at the school gate. This year, we will kick off as one of the many schools on the Gold Coast that will together see thousands of families, teachers and community members out and about enjoying travelling actively between school and home.

Being an active travel school means:

  • healthier children
  • safer school zones
  • increased concentration in students
  • reduced traffic around school
  • directly helping the environment
  • resources and skills for children and volunteer parents and carers
  • fun with friends!

What can you do to become an active travel family?

Even making a change once a week can make a significant difference to school-related traffic. Please use the 4Rs:

  • re-mode swaps the car for walking, wheeling and public transport
  • reduce car trips by carpooling or combining trips
  • re-route take a slightly different route to avoid congested roads
  • re-time school-related trips consider dropping children earlier or picking them up later.

Please join us in making the commitment to actively travel to school at least once per week on our new Worongary’s Walking and Wheeling Wednesday. Students and families are being asked to walk, ride, bike or scoot some or all of the way to school every Wednesday.

There are lots of fun prizes and initiatives to be announced over the coming weeks to help support and promote Active Safe Travel (AST) in our school community.

Please join us for our launch event on Wednesday 11th May for our first Worongary’s Walking and Wheeling Wednesday. All students and families are invited to walk, ride, scoot or bike some, or all of the way to school. There will be a free coffee van at one of our park and stride locations and a light breakfast being served for students on the multipurpose courts from 8am.

Let’s change the way we move!
