Active School Travel Term 3 Breakfast
Another fantastic morning of celebrating travelling actively to school. There was a huge demonstration of support with many students receiving hole punches on their AST bag tags.

Congratulations to those families who received $50 Rebel Sport Vouchers for completing the 2022 parent survey. We look forward to the 2023 survey to continue to see how the school can improve in this area.
Thank You Meaghan Scanlon!
Thank you also to our P&C for continually looking for grants and support for our school.

Thank you Meaghan Scanlon MP for your support of donating another VEX robotics kit for Mrs P and the students to use in the 2022/23 season.
Collecting children from school
If parents/guardians are unavailable to collect their child/ren from school and another person is collecting them, please contact the office and let them know. Thank you for your understanding on this so we can ensure the correct person is collecting your child.
School Disco
I would like to extend a huge thank you to the P&C and parent/staff volunteers who helped make the discos such a success! Thank you!!! This was my first disco at Worongary and after speaking to students on assemblies – they cannot wait for the next one!
Parent Teacher Interviews
Our Term 3 Parent Teacher Interviews will be on Wednesday 31 August 2022 commencing at 3.15pm until 7.45pm. This is an opportunity for parents/carers to receive an update on how your child is progressing with their learning prior to receiving their Semester 2 report card at the end of Term 4. This conversation can help highlight next steps in learning so that parents/carers can support your child’s learning further. Please note this interview is scheduled with the class teacher, however parents/carers may arrange a meeting with specialist staff.
From 9.00am Monday 15 August 2022, parents will be encouraged to log onto the school's website or follow the links below and book a time to meet with your child's class teacher. If for any reason you are unable to find a suitable time, please contact your child's class teacher via Dojo to arrange an alternative time.
Parents will have until 3.00 pm Monday 29 August 2022 to log on and book an appointment. Parent Teacher Interviews will open on Monday 15 August 2022 9.00 am and will close Monday 29 August 3.00 pm 2022.

PREP 2023

One of the aspects of Worongary State School that we are praised for within the wider community are the values and positive behaviours that we develop in our students. This includes instilling a sense of pride in our school. One simple example of this is the correct wearing of our school uniform. We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our school community for your commitment to the school uniform policy that maintains our students’ positive sense of belonging. We would like to remind everyone that our uniform option for the cooler months is the wearing of the Worongary State School jacket or pullover (alternative is a plain maroon pullover). School Uniform items are available for purchase from the school uniform shop on a Thursday 8am – 9:30am or through the QKR app.

FROM THE MUSIC ROOM
LOOKING AFTER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Many students at Worongary hire school-owned instruments. Some of these instruments cost thousands of dollars! It is important to remember to look after instruments as many have moving and breakable parts that are costly to replace. Here are some tips to care for your instruments:
- Always keep your instrument in its case when not in use. Make sure case handles and zippers are working properly. If broken please inform your music teacher.
- Most damage to instruments comes from being dropped or banged against another hard object. Please encourage students to treat instruments with care and be spatially aware.
- Don’t rush when setting up an instrument. Take the time and care that is required to do things correctly.
- Do not ever run when holding a musical instrument.
- Don’t leave your instrument in extreme temperatures, as fluctuations can warp and damage your instrument. Don’t leave your instrument in a car, where it’s susceptible to hot/cold temperatures as well as humidity fluctuations.
- Keep your instrument clean. Wipe your instrument with a clean, soft, non-treated cloth after playing.
- Never attempt to repair an instrument at home. If a repair is needed, please inform your teacher.

NERANG HIGH QUALITY ARTS PROGRAM VISIT
This week the Senior School were fortunate enough to have a visit from the Nerang State High School Quality Arts programs. The students showcased their talents singing, playing and dancing for our students.
Nerang State High School offers a variety of signature programs within the Arts - Dance/Drama & Music. (Last year our Year 5 & 6 students were fortunate to attend the Nerang High Musical - Matilda (as pictured below). These programs provide a platform for students to thrive through an extended curriculum where they collaborate with other students, expert teachers and industry professionals. If your child is in Year 5 and 6 and interested in music dance, or drama, please refer to the following link for more information on entry requirements

LIVE MUSIC CONCERT FOR YEAR 3 & 4
Final call for Year 3 and Year 4 students to return forms for KABOOM PERCUSSION on Monday August 22. What a great show it will be!

NEW INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC RECRUITS FOR 2023
A big thank-you to all the students in Year 2 & 3 that have returned the ‘Expression of Interest’ forms. Over the next fortnight Miss Jones and Mr Ugarte will be working through this information and meeting with students to discuss the ‘best instrument fit’ for them in 2023. Offers of places in the programs will then be distributed before the conclusion of Term 3. Please remember that taking on learning a musical instrument is extra work and does require daily practise at home. It is also a year-long commitment.

ACTIVE SAFE TRAVEL
Nearly 100 students at Worongary State School entered the AST (Active Safe Travel) drawing competition and even though the winners have not been decided by the GCCC as yet, we thought it might be nice to showcase some of the entries in the newsletter each week. Here are the ones for this week.
All WSS families were invited to participate in the GCCC ‘ Park and Stride’ feedback survey to have their say and identify our community’s needs. Four lucky winners were drawn! Kerry Bennetts, Aliesha Dawson, Angela Ingram and Christie Burgoyne.

Congratulations and thank you for helping us change the
way we move!

Community Notices
Good morning fellow Active Travellers,
Please see below for a fun school holiday program that invites children aged 6-12 years to get creative as they help to design the Gold Coast of the future, and work towards making the route to school safer and more fun.
We appreciate you passing this on to your students and families. Our Active School Travel officers help to facilitate these workshops over the three-day period, so your students might see a familiar face or two!
Happy Active Travelling!

Kids take over:
Designing urban experiments
Creative school holiday workshops for ages 6-12 years
Imagine if you could play while walking to school, and if crossing the street could be a cool and colourful experience. This is a call to mini artists, designers, architects, and city changers!
Working with an amazing team of local artists, transport planners, and facilitators, we will design and build prototypes of temporary street interventions that will make our route to school safer, more attractive, and fun.
This is the last stage of the three-workshop program (“Designing a neighbourhood” and “Designing streets for kids”) organised in collaboration with Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2041 - City of Gold Coast. It is not a requirement that you have to have participated in previous workshops to participate in these sessions.
For ages 6-12 years.
