School Opinion Survey

Thank you so much to those families who completed the school opinion survey for 2022. As always, we continuously want to improve in all areas of schooling at Worongary State School.

Grandparents Day/ Book week Parades

What a fantastic day and turn out at our Grandparents' Day! So much effort was made by the students and teachers, including their artwork and dressing up to make the day a success. I have heard about the art gallery from years past and also about the disappointment of not having these due to COVID. They are now back!! Thank you to all staff involved for making this day a success for our families. Special thank you to the Queen of Heart, Mrs Connor for leading the celebrations.

Reminder Student Free Day

The school will be closed Friday 2 September 2022 for the departments designated Student Free Day.

Science Week

National Science Week was filled with many activities for students to enjoy and celebrate the wonder of science. This year’s theme was “Glass: More than meets the eye”. What a way to start the week with mega marble fun using glass mazes and marble runs. Great thinking!

On Tuesday, we were privileged to have an idig discovery sessions for students and parents to access. This included tropical megafauna, student presentations and displays. Thank you, Mrs P, for organising this week and celebrating science throughout the school!

Lego League

A huge congratulations to Mrs Pikunic and the STEM students for their efforts at the recent Lego League Rookie Teams event at Merrimac State High School. Team Worongary received the Judges Aware for the 2022 Competition!! Thank you to the wonderful parents for supporting the students. Also thank you to Mrs P for giving up her Saturday to support our students. We are very proud!

Have a great week ahead!

PREP 2023

One of the aspects of Worongary State School that we are praised for within the wider community are the values and positive behaviours that we develop in our students. This includes instilling a sense of pride in our school. One simple example of this is the correct wearing of our school uniform. We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our school community for your commitment to the school uniform policy that maintains our students’ positive sense of belonging. We would like to remind everyone that our uniform option for the cooler months is the wearing of the Worongary State School jacket or pullover (alternative is a plain maroon pullover). School Uniform items are available for purchase from the school uniform shop on a Thursday 8am – 9:30am or through the QKR app.

BOOK WEEK PERFORMANCES

Last Wednesday was a wonderful day of community & Music. Thank you to all the students that performed in the various ensembles. A huge thank you to all the families that attended – you were a warm & very encouraging audience.

YEAR 3 & 4 KABOOM INCURSION

Last Monday Year 3 & 4 students attended a musical performance in the hall conducted by Kaboom Percussion. The show was one of the best I have ever seen! Students were introduced to making music using everyday items as well as different techniques of bucket drumming & the unforgettable ‘thongaphone’. A huge thank-you to all the families, staff & students that made this performance such a joyful learning experience.

BRING YOUR EQUIPMENT: RECORDERS YEAR 3 & 4

Every week students in Years 3 & 4 require their recorder for music class. Please develop a system, such as, returning the instrument to the school bag after home practise. Most weeks, I do send out Dojo reminders (the night before music lessons) to remind students. If students have misplaced their recorder, they do require another. Officeworks, Woolworths and local music stores generally have them in stock.

At the beginning of the year, students were provided with a folder to keep their instrument in. If this is broken or lost please consider purchasing a cheap plastic folder to keep the recorder in. This is an instrument that goes in students’ mouths - hygiene is so important!

NEW INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC RECRUITS FOR 2023

Congratulations to the Year 2 students that have been offered a place in the Instrumental Music Strings Program for 2023. If your child has not yet received an offer of a place in the program, do not despair, more offers may become available as data is updated throughout the remainder of the year.

Mr Ugarte will be meeting with interested Year 3 band students in the coming weeks. Please remember that taking on learning a musical instrument is extra-work, and does require daily practise at home. It is also a year-long commitment.

BOOK WEEK

Book Week 2022 Wrap Up

Yet again, our school community has amazed me with its enthusiasm and commitment to Book Week. Every year, more and more students, and families, come along dressed in the spirit of literature and fun. And wow, did we have fun.

The students’ fantastic art work on show in our Hall Art Gallery was very popular, as was the photo booth. Our musical performances by Junior & Senior Choir, Band and Strings groups were magical, under the enthusiastic and expert tutelage of Ms Jones.

Thank you to all the students, families and teachers who showed up, dressed up, sang up and generally had a great time with all things Book Week.

Hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did, and not one person lost their head!

Regards

Queen of Hearts (aka Mrs Connor)

STEM

On Saturday 20th August, we took two teams to the 2022 FLL City Shaper Rookie Competition hosted at Merrimac State High School. There were 8 primary schools attending and a total of 17 teams. We had a fantastic day and our teams placed 2nd and 6th in the robot game and achieved highly accomplished in judging for our team’s innovation project and core values. We received the Judges Award for our overall achievements on the day. Go Team Worongary!

Our STEM Excellence students have enjoyed learning all about how computers work with our CSIRO’s STEM Professionals in School industry partner. It was a lot of fun being able to look inside an old non-working computer tower and laptop.

We wish our three VEX Robotics Teams all the best as they begin to prepare for this season’s challenge by getting their hero bots ready. Now the kits have arrived, students have been meeting at break times to develop their ideas and to design and build their first robot for their team. Drivers have also started getting used to driving using a remote control and a base bot. It is so great to see them all working together and helping each other. We have 22 students from Years 4, 5 and 6 in this year’s program, and they meet each Wednesday and Thursday at first break in the STEM room.

ACTIVE SAFE TRAVEL

Nearly 100 students at Worongary State School entered the AST (Active Safe Travel) drawing competition and even though the winners have not been decided by the GCCC as yet, we thought it might be nice to showcase some of the entries in the newsletter each week. Here are the ones for this week.
