FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

Very Proud

I have to share a lovely moment of pride. Last week, we had our annual building inspection. This inspection drives our facilities grant spending for the future year. The inspectors shared with me feedback over our lovely school. The positive behaviour of students. The friendly staff. The active learning that is taking place. They shared how they visit schools every week and I should be very proud as the Principal of the school.

Day for Daniel

This Friday, our school will be wearing RED for Day for Daniel. Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day. This national day of action advocates for safer communities for children and empowering them to Recognise, React and Report when they feel unsafe.

In 2022, the theme for the day is brace conversations. We believe Day for Daniel is the perfect opportunity to start conversations around personal safety.

Staff Appreciation Day

Friday is our dedicated day to celebrate all staff in the school for making a difference to the students’ lives. Our staff get to school early, leave late, work on plans and programs over the weekend and over the holidays and dedicate so much time to make our school a better place.

Please show your appreciation with a thank you to our amazing staff!

Get Set for Prep

We have now commenced our Get Set for Prep program. This has been very popular and a credit to our amazing early years team, leadership team and P&C who present the parents and work with our future students. We have taken the feedback from parents over the years to best tailor these sessions to benefit the students and parents to best transition to Worongary State School. Looking forward to meeting our new, and returning parents to these sessions.

Scooter Safety

There has been reports of students not wearing helmets and not utilising the zebra crossings. The message of road safety has been discussed at assemblies and with some students directly. We would appreciate your support with further conversations at home.

School Disco

This is very exciting! Thank you so much to the P&C for organising another fun event for our students – and staff

Keep up to date with messages and school events on Facebook and ClassDojo. This is such a busy term and looking forward to seeing many of you at the plethora of events this term.

Have a great week ahead!
Mr Adam Brandt
Principal

DAY FOR DANIEL FRIDAY 28 OCTOBER 2022

Students will be recognising Day for Daniel on Friday 28 October and are asked to wear a red sun safe t-shirt only (please wear correct school shorts / skirts, socks and shoes on this day, no coloured hair spray, hair bands or ribbons).

Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. We ask all Australians on this very special day to wear red and educate.

The theme for 2022 is 'Brave Conversations'. Parents, carers and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety. Schools and early learning centres conduct child safety education activities. Businesses and community come together to raise awareness of child safety issues.

FROM THE MUSIC ROOM

YEAR 5 & 6 BAND & STRING STUDENTS

On Monday October 17, our Year 5 & 6 Band and Strings participated in a cluster workshop held at Merrimac State High School. It was a long day culminating in an evening concert for families and friends. Students learnt new repertoire and performed in what can only be described as mega bands and mega orchestras! A big thank-you to all the students and their families for their efforts and attendance at this wonderful event.

NERANG HIGH FUTURE BAND PROGRAM

Year 6 Band students are also invited to attend a series of band workshops and culminating concert with Nerang High School Band Master Ms Buchanan. These workshops are held on Tuesday afternoons and commence on October 25. So many great opportunities for our Senior Students!

ENROLMENT CONTRACTS – INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC 2023

Contracts have now been handed to selected students for 2023. All students participating in Instrumental Music must complete and return the contracts before November 11 2022. This secures their place in the program and also outlines the expectations of each student. Please complete these forms asap and return to the Office or Music Room.

END OF YEAR CONCERT

The end of year music concert involving all choirs, strings and band will be held on Thursday November 10 in the school hall commencing at 3:15pm. Please save this date in your diaries.

ASSESSMENT TERM 4

This term is traditionally very busy. There are many demands on students. Instrumental Music students have elected to take on additional work by learning a musical instrument and this can become overwhelming if they do not have a plan in place to achieve their goals. Make daily practise (10 minutes is sufficient) a habit to form now, so that students are not ‘stressed out’ in Week 8 or 9! Also keep up to date with resources and message posted on Dojo – they can be life savers!

STEM

We had a great incursion from the Cross River Rail Experience Centre education team, who came to visit our Year 3 STEM classes last Wednesday. Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 km rail line, including 5.9km of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and CBD. We learnt about Brisbane tuff (a type of rock formed as a result of a volcanic eruption) as part of the testing and planning phase, demolition, archaeology, piling, acoustic sheds, building the stations and tunnel boring machines (TBMs). Did you know that a TBM weighs approximately 1650 tonnes? Our students finished the visit with a fun, hands-on engineering challenge.

Our Year 4 students have been working through the engineering design process to design solutions for the Mission to Mars challenges using our VEX GO Robotics Kits. This has included designing a buggy with wheels that move as they learnt about wheels and axles and designing a base for Mars.

Here are our some of our students in action working on their robots to get ready for the VEX IQ State Championships on Saturday 29th October hosted at Merrimac State High School.
