Citizen Science for Cooler Schools
So proud of our budding scientists involved in the Citizen Science for Cooler Schools project in collaboration with a team of researchers, scientists and educators from Griffith University. These students have been involved in a twenty-week program (that started in Term 4, 2022) learning about heatwaves and how we can best protect ourselves and our communities as the heat intensifies. This photo was taken at the very beginning of their learning journey

WSS Colour Foam-raiser Colour Fun Run

On the 27 April 2023, the P&C will be hosting the school Colour Run for the students. This such a fun event and has been getting better every year I have been here.
In 2023, the P&C are hosting the event themselves. Please see the message below from the P&C:
We are doing our very own
Colour Foam-raiser Colour Fun Run
What this means is we are doing it all ourselves! With no help from an
external company who takes from our fundraising efforts- (in the past up to
40%).
So, let's get Fundraising! Many prizes and additional fun stuff will be
happening as we go along! Please go to:
https://worongarysscolourfoamrun.goraiseit.com.au/hub
to set up your online fundraising page and share your link for family, friends and work colleagues to sponsor you!
There are 3 top prizes (yet to be announced) for Junior, Middle and Senior School.
Plus highest fundraising Class gets a Pizza, Popcorn and Popper party at the end of term kindly supported from the WSS P&C!
This is the last call that fundraising monies will be going towards improving our playgrounds. As we are staring it THIS YEAR!
If you are available to attend on the day, please contact the P&C to offer your support.
I cannot wait to run with the students, staff and parents in such a fun event!
Walking to and from school
This is a timely reminder of the importance of ensuring that discussions are continually being had with children about personal safety strategies.
I encourage parents and caregivers to remain vigilant and to ensure student awareness is heightened when travelling to and from school and also during the holiday period.
Please see the fantastic resource from the Daniel Morcombe foundation with advice to families to discuss with their children when walking to and from school. The fact sheet below can be located at:
https://danielmorcombe.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/DMF_FS_Travelling_to_School.pdf

This message has been reiterated throughout the classes across the school.
Your assistance in reinforcing these messages through discussions with your children is appreciated.
Working in partnership with us to promote the safety of children is of paramount importance to us all.
Wishing every family, a safe and enjoyable holiday with your family and friends. Looking forward to seeing you on Monday 17 April for the first day back for term 2.
Regards,
Adam
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR
Fortnightly PBL Focus

Our Positive Behaviour for Learning Dojo Menu is here!
This term, as students achieve 100, 150 and 200 Dojos they will be selecting an item from the Bronze Menu to celebrate their achievement.
Dojo Menus were created as part of the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) regeneration that takes place as part of the PBL review cycles.
Last year students were involved in brainstorming a range of activities and items that they would like to see on the Dojo Menus and then again earlier this year as the Dojo Menus were refined.
The Bronze Menu items include:
- Homework pass for one week (entitles them to use pass in place of completing homework for one week),
- Raffle ticket in the Tuckshop draw (fortnightly draw winners can select popcorn, frozen fruit bomb or a bliss ball)
- Sit in the teacher’s chair for a day
- Bronze Time (free time of 15 minutes)
- Ice block (Berri Quelch Fruit Stick Ice Block)
Students will continue to be acknowledged on assembly and also through our school newsletter – Pipeline.
Parents/ Guardians are asked to please update student medical details of any food allergies or advise your child’s class teacher if you prefer they opt out of food menu items.

DOJO AWARDS
As part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning Acknowledgment System, students earn Dojo points for Being safe, respectful learners. The following students have achieved Dojo recognition this term:
Bronze Dojo – 100 points

Thank you so much! Our students are so grateful for the donations of the Woolworths Farm and Shop Bricks as well as LEGO generously donated by families and friends of our school community. Here are just a few of their amazing creations so far.

Our wonderful P&C President dropped into our Innovation Hub last week to pass on an EB Games/Zing Gift Voucher to the value of $50 kindly donated by Cr. Glenn Tozer which will help support our growing esports club. Our esports club currently supports over 32 students each Tuesday.

Our students are continuing to work in partnership with Griffith University researchers, scientists, and educators on our Cooler Schools Citizen Science Project. All groups now have selected their projects and are working towards submitting their entries into two major science competitions later this year that documents their learning journey.

ARE YOU WALKING OR WHEELING EACH WEDNESDAY? - JOIN THE AST GROUP, WE'D LOVE TO SEE YOU!
An AST committee member will be meeting up with families to walk with them from the Kenneth Drive cul de sac (Park and Stride location at the far end of the park, opposite the school). This will continue each Wednesday until the end of the term. The teacher will be walking with the families and not in place of parents or caregivers. If this becomes a worthwhile endeavour, we may include our other Park and Stride location in future terms.
We look forward to seeing you next Term 2 and enjoying another Worongary State School community activity.
