Free Parent Workshop

What are the building blocks for emotional resilience?

We are excited to provide some more information about our upcoming "Raising Resilient Children" Seminar. As we know, life can be full of ups and downs, and it is essential for our children to learn how to cope with difficult situations in a positive way.

This seminar will focus on teaching parent’s strategies to help their children develop emotional resilience. The seminar will introduce:

  • Recognising, understanding, and accepting feelings,
  • How to express feelings appropriately,
  • The value of developing a positive outlook, and
  • Effective ways of coping and managing stressful events.

Our aim is to provide parents with practical tools to support their children's emotional well-being and help them develop resilience.

We invite all parents to attend this safe, informative, and practical seminar. You will have an opportunity to ask questions, but will not be asked to speak or to share any personal information.

Annual Book Fair for National Reading Month 22 – 26 May

Fliers were sent home over the past few days, giving you a sample of some of the books available for students to purchase, or order.

Students will view the books a few days before, giving them a chance to pick their ‘favourite’, and may bring home a ‘Wish list’.

If you want your child to get this book, it’s as easy as filling in your credit card details on the back of the wish list, or go online (details are on the back as well) and pay. Then send that wish list to the library, from Tues 23rd until Fri 26th May. Or better still, come in to our Library and have a look around yourself.

NO ORDERS CAN BE TAKEN OUTSIDE OF THESE DATES. Without that wish list, noting your card details or receipt number from Website, NO books will be given out. That paper is the only proof of payment, which has to be returned to Scholastic to confirm payment.

Book Fair opens at 8am Tues 23rd, and will be open each day from 8-9am, and again from 3.10-4pm each afternoon. Students and parents are welcome.

Worongary SS students will join over 2 million other children in over 59,000 locations across Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Island nations, to promote Literacy by reading together.

This year’s book is called ‘The Sleepy Sloth’ by Rebecca Young, and many of our students will enjoy a ‘live-streamed’ presentation of this story.

Don’t forget to ask your children about it on Wednesday afternoon.

Friday 19th May is National Walk Safely to school day and we would love to see our school community walking to school. Walk all the way or part of the way to school on this day to encourage active walking in a safe way. The AST committee and year 6 helpers will be hole punching bag tags on this day, as well as giving out National Walk Safely to School Day tattoos. A member of the AST committee will meet up with families to walk from the end of Kenneth Drive at Lawrance Hinde Park.

Walk Safely:

  • Walk on footpaths or greenspaces, not the road
  • Cross the road at the school crossing
  • Look both ways before crossing the road
  • Children under 10 hold an adult’s hand to cross the road

See you there.

MOTHERS DAY STALL

We have our annual Mother's Day Stall occurring Thursday 11th May and Friday 12th May 2023. There are some amazing gifts this year, some homemade with love also. We have had an overwhelming response to volunteers to assist in the stall this year, and we thank you so very much for your assistance and support.

DISCO

Less than 1 week until our Term 2 Disco. There is no theme this year- just come dressed to impress! Put on your favourite disco/dance attire and have an amazing night.

Tickets are on Sale now through the QKR! App (same as tuckshop and Uniform online App) You will find ticket options available under the meal deal section of the App. But Hurry! Tickets close at 8pm Tuesday 16th May 2023. This is to ensure the P&C have suitable time to cater and arrange the Wristbands for the disco, to be disseminated to the students in class on the day. The disco will have some lollies/ chips/ ice blocks and drinks available for purchase during the evening.

We recommend bringing water bottles to the disco. Please ensure your child's name is clearly on the water bottle for easy identification. We have placed a table in the foyer for the children to leave them throughout the disco.

DISCO Times

Juniors - 4pm- 5.30pm
Seniors - 6pm- 7.30pm

VOLUNTEERING AT THE DISCO

Yes, these events rely on volunteer assistance- areas are mainly for food service and Supervision. Unfortunately, if we do not have suitable supervision throughout each disco, we have been advised that the disco may be cancelled. So, we are placing a call out for volunteers. WE NEED YOU! Come with another School Parent and have a bit of a boogie with the kids at the same time. It's a fun and great night.

COLOUR FOAMRAISER FUNRUN- School Fundraising Event.

On 28th April an email was sent via Worongary State school Admin office on behalf of the WSS P&C. Within that email was a parent information letter and consent form for our ColOUR Foamraiser FunRun Fundraising event. This provided much needed information to set up the online fundraising platform that the parent/carer controls. For every $20 each student fundraises, they go in the raffle draw to win one of 3 Major Prizes. There are 9 major prizes and incentive prizes to be distributed throughout the fundraising weeks. We have only 3 weeks until the event. If you have not set up an online platform and started fundraising, please do so asap and start fundraising for your school. Mr Brandt has said, if we reach $10k then he will be up for being slimed in his work uniform on the day of the event, by the highest fundraisers. SLIMED!!!

Just go to our Fundraising Hub page from the link below.

https://worongarysscolourfoamrun.goraiseit.com.au/hub

If you have not received your information/ consent letter, please contact the P&C and we will send a copy to you asap. Email Tracy at pandc@worongaryss.eq.edu.au
