FROM THE PRINCIPAL

There have been some exciting introductions at Worongary.

Firstly - Welcome Billy – our school Therapy Dog.

Billy is a 7-year-old miniature black poodle who loves to play and interact with students. As a therapy dog, Billy will help reduce stress, enhance engagement, and provide emotional support to our students.

Billy's Role:

  • Create excitement for school attendance
  • Build positive relationships
  • Improve behaviour and engagement
  • Reduce anxiety and make school life more enjoyable

Benefits of Therapy Dogs:

Research shows that therapy dogs can lower stress levels, increase positive social behaviors, and promote well-being.

Last week, an email was sent to all families with further details regarding the introduction of Billy. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Engagement Teacher, Emma Hutcheson, at exhut2@eq.edu.au .

We are thrilled to have Billy join our school community and look forward to the positive impact he will make!

Welcome Ms Hutchison – Acting Deputy Principal (Years 3-6)

For the remaining of the term, Mr Gaggin has been offered a unique opportunity to work at Tallebudgera State School. While we will certainly miss his presence during this time, we recognise the value of professional growth and the opportunity for him to share his expertise with another school community.

In his absence, I am pleased to announce that we have appointed Ms Kristy Hutcheson as the Acting Deputy Principal in the senior school. Ms Hutcheson is a permanent Deputy Principal for the Department of Education with vast experience as a leader in a range of schools. As Acting Deputy Principal, she will work closely with our staff, students and parents to ensure a smooth transition and continued excellence in our senior school.

Junior School Deputy Update

Mrs Salazar has been appointed as Acting Deputy Principal at Belview State School for the remaining of the year. This too is an exciting opportunity for her to work with new staff and students at Belview. Over the last two weeks, I have run a process for her replacement. I am pleased to announce that Kristine Sleeth, current Deputy Principal at Marden State School, will be joining our school. She is an experienced Deputy Principal and is very excited to be working at Worongary State School.

Tuckshop $50 notes

A reminder to all families to consider the size of the notes that are being handed to children to purchase over the counter items at the tuckshop. Some children have presented $50 notes to the tuckshop. A decision has been made that $50 note will no longer be accepted by the P&C to protect the students losing this large sum of money.

Trivia Night Postponed

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the trivia night has been postponed by the P&C.

Regards,
Adam

30th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday 21 October – 10AM TO 3PM

Annual Book Fair for National Reading Month 22 – 26 May

Fliers were sent home over the past few days, giving you a sample of some of the books available for students to purchase, or order.

Students will view the books a few days before, giving them a chance to pick their ‘favourite’, and may bring home a ‘Wish list’.

If you want your child to get this book, it’s as easy as filling in your credit card details on the back of the wish list, or go online (details are on the back as well) and pay. Then send that wish list to the library, from Tues 23rd until Fri 26th May. Or better still, come in to our Library and have a look around yourself.

NO ORDERS CAN BE TAKEN OUTSIDE OF THESE DATES. Without that wish list, noting your card details or receipt number from Website, NO books will be given out. That paper is the only proof of payment, which has to be returned to Scholastic to confirm payment.

Book Fair opens at 8am Tues 23rd, and will be open each day from 8-9am, and again from 3.10-4pm each afternoon. Students and parents are welcome.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Worongary SS students joined over 2 million other children in over 59,000 locations across Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Island nations, to promote Literacy by reading together.

This year’s book is called ‘The Sleepy Sloth’ by Rebecca Young, and many of our students enjoyed a ‘live-streamed’ presentation of this story, from Taronga Park Zoo.

Don’t forget to ask your children about it on Wednesday afternoon.
